Polys And Poligamy
Hey, upper east emailers, sister Tew here! This week went by so fast for reals. I get shipped off to Louisiana tomorrow and honestly idk how I feel about it. Overall I'm so excited to share the love of Christ with the people there!! I also learned how to say a very simple prayer in italian this week incase anyone was wondering.
This week was a very spiritual one thats for sure. For starters all the new mission presidents, some of the 70, and most of the 12 apostles were here. When I tell you the spirit was so strong the second they got on campus. It was so cool to talk to some of the new mission presidents. They all radiate such a strong christlike light and love.
In class on Thursday we had the opprtunity to talk with elder Bednar. It was so cool. The spirit was so strong the second he walked into our classroom. He ended up staying a whole hour to answer some of our questions. My biggest take away from that q&a was that in the midst of the saviors very hardest moment, he chose to be compassionate and heal someone whose problem seemed like a splinter compared to his. When the natural man would turn inwards and think of themself, Jesus Christ always turns outwards and thinks of those around him. It is definitely way easier said than done, but as we chose compassion and think of others first we are walking in the saviors footsteps as well as becoming even more like him.
This week sis alston, cantwell, richter and I met some polys and they are so funny. They are both learning english right now, so they wanted to practice talking in english by sharing their testimonies with us. It is the most precious thing ever honestly. They don't know alot of words so their testimonies are very simple, but the spirit they bring when they share is so strong. I'm going to miss them a lot!
We met this other poly wearing some real fire shell necklace and we asked how we could get one. I guess its samoan tradition to give those necklaces to their wife. So sis alston, cantwell, richter, and I are to become his wives. Basically catch me wearing that shell necklace in 2 years ;) just jokes. #pleasehelp #ijustwantanecklace #hehas10wiveswith5childrenrequiredeach
Every sunday in the mtc we have what is called a go and do experience where we basically have 2 hours to study whatever the Holy Ghost leads us to study. This week I went into my study with the question, "How can I be a better example of Christ?" So I started studying sime Christlike attributes, amd the first one that stuck out waz charity which is the pure love of Christ. As I was reading Moroni 7:45-46 every time it said the word charity I heard "Christ" in my head, so I decided to reread it that way. Here's what I read:
"And Christ suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not his own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not Christ, ye are nothing, for Christ never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto Christ, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail"
When we cleave unto Christ through our trials he will strengthen and comfort us. When we rely on Christ our burdens will become lighter. I know that as we strive to follow Christs example and be more charitable towards others even when it's hard we will become better examples of him. He always cares for the 1 out of the 99. He wants to help you, you just have to be faithful and ask for his help.
Never forget how loved you are!!!
